Why does garmin nuvi not turn on

The difference between non-powered USB cables is in how the cables are wired. A standard USB cable contains four individual wires. The first wire provides 5 volts of power at milliamps, and the fourth acts as its ground. The second and third carry data between devices. The smaller mini-USB and micro-USB connectors add a fifth wire, which can be used to change how the cable functions with portable devices. If the fifth wire isn't connected to the fourth, the cable can be used only for data. Connecting the fourth and fifth enables the cable to charge or power your Garmin, depending on the amperage.

The factory-original Garmin USB cable has a Configured this way, the cable doubles the standard USB amperage and allows the Nuvi to draw up to 1 amp.

That's enough power to charge and navigate at the same time. Many aftermarket cables will be wired for data only, or will produce just the standard mA of USB current. A data cable will let you transfer information only between your Nuvi and a computer. A standard-amperage cable will charge your Nuvi but not power it. You can still use an aftermarket charger, or replace a defective charger cable with one from an electronics retailer.

If you have several mini- or micro-USB cables, try them one at a time and identify the ones that will power the Nuvi. Shame on you Garmin. How the! I find the device totally unreliable and therefor mostly unusable. Everything other than this operates fine and in correct manner. Who the! Back to older maps and my old flipping tomtom. I had the same exact problem and was ready to pull my hair out and bring it back to BestBuy to get it fixed.

After it was not charging in our car, I connected it to a desktop. It still would not charge so I plugged it into my portable charger and my Garmin started up just fine. Earl ricebike. I also own 2 older series with lifetime map updates.

Still works to this day, used from Craig's list as well. My Garmin Nuvi we'll just shut down and refuse to turn back on. Sometimes it will come back on if I hold the power button down but most of the time it will go for days or even a couple of weeks without me being able to turn it back on.
